CHOOSE PROVIDER

My name is Ruta Nuguse and I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist with Rise Above Psychological Services. My parents immigrated to Canada from a small country in Africa called Eritrea in the early 80’s and I’ve had the privilege of growing up on Treaty 6 land. My passion for mental health began with my interest in understanding the impacts of intergenerational trauma on BIPOC communities and how using a holistic lens and honoring one's whole self can support us on our path of healing and growth. I believe that everyone has a unique identity and I like to support clients by being present and providing a safe and non-judgemental space. I work from a collaborative and culturally sensitive lens, incorporating different modalities to best fit my clients needs. This includes, trauma informed practices, mindfulness, EMDR, trauma focused CBT, DBT, art expression, play therapy and person-centered therapy. I currently work with individuals ages 10+ and groups.
Hello! I am deeply honored to embark on this journey of serving Indigenous communities. While not Indigenous myself, I respect and value Indigenous worldviews, traditions, and beliefs. I approach my work with sensitivity and a commitment to tailoring interventions to align with client's cultural backgrounds. I understand the importance of building trust within Indigenous communities. I am committed to actively engaging in community events, gatherings, and cultural ceremonies to foster relationships and better understand the needs of the community I serve. I have a strong foundation in trauma-informed care and its relevance to Indigenous populations. I am committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for clients to explore and heal from trauma. I am eager to listen to you (my clients) to better understand your unique experiences and discuss how I can help you. I believe that at the end of the day, everyone wants to feel heard, seen, and understood, which can be healing in and of itself.
Hello! I am a non-Indigenous ally. I am a Provisional Psychologist who is passionate about supporting people who are navigating trauma, grief, and loss as well as areas such as anxiety and depression. I work from a trauma-informed client-centered attachment lens aiming to create a safe place that is free from judgement for clients allowing them to be authentic and present. I believe that a safe and trusting relationship is necessary for people to be able to explore and grow. With your knowledge and wisdom of your life and experience, we will work together in a direction that feels best for you and for what you like to accomplish during our time together. I have an eclectic and holistic approach to therapy, which allows me to integrate what will best serve the people I work with. My approaches include emotionally focused individual therapy (EFIT), narrative therapy, mindfulness and grounding techniques, Polyvagal Theory, and solution-focused therapy.
Welcome! My name is Marcus, and I work here as a Registered Provisional Psychologist. My formal education includes a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology and a Bachelor of Kinesiology. I work with teens and adults through a variety of mental health challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, identity loss and more. After playing elite sports at university, national and professional levels, I gained a special passion for working with high performers such as athletes, professionals, or entrepreneurs to develop the skills required to thrive in all environments. I have worked extensively with trauma, and I have specialized trainings in trauma, Indigenous culture, and traditional Nordic and Celtic healing practices. I am happy to incorporate spirituality or culture for those individuals who find it supportive to their healing. I want you to arrive at a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel comfortable being your authentic self. I set the intention that we will have fun, learn, and grow together because every counselling experience is unique and special, just like you are. I believe that you have the power to create your own reality and I would be honoured to support you on this journey of discovery. I work from a trauma informed, holistic perspective that looks at the entire human being (not just the symptoms) including the interactions of the mind, body, and external environment which create your overall health. I utilize science-based approaches of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Somatic Experiencing and Mindfulness-based therapy to support transforming your goals and aspirations into realities.
